Instructor and Leader Award Training

HikeandClimb provides training for individuals and clubs that are working towards the Rock Climbing Instructor Qualification, Climbing Wall Instructor and Mountain Leader Award.

Training is available in Dublin and Wicklow primarily, but I will travel to other areas for group bookings.

All instructional training courses and assessments are Mountaineering Ireland certified awards and carried out by a member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors.

Rock Climbing Instructor Training

Rock Climbing Instructor Training is suitable for individuals, clubs and parents with rock climbing experience that want to work towards managing beginners at a single pitch crag or artificial climbing structure. The RCI Award Training runs over three days and introduces the candidate to technical, practical and real world scenarios that one can expect to encounter when instructing beginners.

Training may take place in Dublin, Wicklow and the Mourne Mountains with a one day visit to a suitable indoor climbing venue.

Cost: €230 p/person 

Venue: Dublin and Wicklow but will travel to other areas for group bookings.

Climbing Wall Instructor Training

Climbing Wall Instructor Training runs over two days and trains candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers at indoor climbing walls and outdoor artificial climbing structures. The training is suitable for those working at indoor bouldering walls and indoor roped climbing walls. 

Training takes place at a suitable indoor climbing venue and runs over a minimum of 16 hours. Candidates will be trained in group management, top-rope supervision and bouldering wall supervision. This award does not cover teaching lead climbing or outdoor rock climbing.

Cost: €180 p/person 

Venue: Dublin, but will travel to other walls for group bookings.

Mountain Leader Award Training

Mountain Leader Award is a Mountaineering Ireland certified award for those that would like to lead groups into the Irish and UK mountains. The awards focuses on advanced navigation techniques, a deep dive into contour interpretation, managing a group over mountain terrain, wild camping, flora and fauna and emergency rope skills.

The Mountain Leader Training is broken into ML1 and ML2 training. 

The ML1 training is a two day module focusing on night navigation, route planning, risk management, emergency rope skills.

The ML2 training is a three day module focusing on wild camping logistics, night navigation, a deep dive into contour interpretation and movement on steep ground.

Cost:  €190 – €240p/person

Venue: Wicklow Mountains, but will travel to other areas for group bookings.
