Lowland Leader – Who is it for?
The Lowland Leader Award is a training and assessment scheme for those that wish to lead groups on waymarked trail and forest trails.
LLA is a certified Mountain Training award and is recognised as the gold standard for leading groups in lowland terrain.
The trainig runs over two consecutive dates in a friendly and practical environment.
Requirements for attending the Lowland Leader Training
Before signing up for the LLA there are certain prerequisites one needs to provide.
One needs to be a member of Mountaineering Ireland or the UK equivalent Mountaineering Council.
Needs to be 17 years or over.
Have registered on the Lowland Leader Scheme
Have a genuine interest in leading people on waymarked lowland trail and forest trails.
Provide proof of 10 hikes or have attend the Mountain Skills course.
Lowland Leader Syllabus
The Lowland Leader Training runs over two consecutive days covering the core skills involved in group management and planning.
During the two days candidates can expect to cover the below.
Leadership, decision making, planning, weather, risk assessment, equipment, access, conservation, flora and fauna, emergency management and background knowledge.
The training is run in a fun, inclusive and friendly environment.
The Lowland Leader Training costs €200 p/person.
This cost excludes the registration fee paid directly to Mountain Training Board Ireland
Max group size 6 people (but can accommodate more upon request for group bookings)
The training is carried out in the Wicklow Mountains, but I can travel for group bookings.
