Rock Climbing Advanced Courses are designed to give the climber with some experience the best possible experience and learning outcomes. The courses are always bespoke and tailored for your individual requirements. During the course you can expect to broadening out an existing skill set, learn new skills and develop a greater confidence.

HikeandClimb offers Learn to Lead Courses, Multipitch Climbing, Sea Cliff Climbing and Self Rescue Courses. All our rock climbing courses are run in a fun, friendly manner with laughter guaranteed.

Learn to Lead Rock Climbing

Learn to Lead Rock Climbing is a comprehensive two day course introducing the outdoor climber with some experience to all that is required to lead trad routes safely and with confidence. The goal is that on completion of the course you have acquired a broad skillset that enables you to safely approach a lead route, protected by traditional gear with confidence.

During the course you can expect to cover:

  • Route reading and using a guidebook
  • Using on-line resources
  • Trad climbing and environmental ethics
  • Rope management, belaying a second, choosing trad equipment, placing trad protection, assessing trad pro placements, building anchors and personal abseiling.
  • Risk assessment at a new venue

Lean to Lead courses run from March – November.

Price €250 – €300 p/person or group discounts available (maximum of four)

Venue: Dalkey Quarry or the Wicklow Mountains.

Rock Climbing Ireland

Multipitch Rock Climbing

Multipitch Rock Climbing is a bespoke two day course focused on a specific set of skills required to climb routes safely and with confidence. During the two days participants can expect to build upon existing climbing knowledge and learn new skills while climbing multipitch routes.

The goal on completion of the course is that you leave a confident, safe and independent multipitch climber.

During the course you can expect to learn:

  • Route reading
  • Rope management
  • Stance management
  • Climbing roles and how they effect rope systems
  • Using single vs half-ropes
  • Abseiling and unplanned retreat

Multipitch rock climbing runs from March – November.

Price €240 – €300 depending on location (maximum of two people)

Venue: Dublin and Wicklow.

Rock Climbing Ireland

Sea Cliff Climbing

Sea Cliff Climbing is a one or two day course introducing a climber to the skillset required to safely climb at a sea cliff venue. During the course we will select routes, build anchors, abseil into routes and climb as much as possible. We will also cover problem avoidance and solving.

Sea Cliff climbing runs from March – November.

During the course you can expect to cover:

  • Route choice
  • Risk assessment
  • Abseil approach and retreat
  • Rope management
  • Single or Multipitch tactics
  • Understanding conditions

Price €180 – €300 depending on duration and location.

Venue: Appropriate sea cliff venue.

Sea Cliff Climbing Ireland

Self Rescue for Climbers

Self Rescue for Rock Climbers is a one or two day course covering the most likely problems a climber may encounter while leading using traditional or sports climbing equipment. These problems may occur in a single pitch venue, a multipitch crag or at a sea cliff.

The goal of this course is that upon completion you have a reasonable skillset to allow you to assess a situation, make the correct decisions and grow your confidence.

During the course you can expect to cover:

  • Escaping the system
  • Ascending and descending a rope
  • Passing a knot or damaged rope
  • Hoisting

Price €120 to €300 depending on numbers and location (minimum of two people)

Venue: Dalkey Quarry or Wicklow Mountains – availability to travel for groups.
