Rock Climbing Advanced Courses are designed to give the climber with some experience the best possible experience and learning outcomes. The courses are always bespoke and tailored for your individual requirements with the goal of broadening out an existing skill set, and introducing new skills, techniques and confidence.

Rock Climbing Ireland

Learn to Lead Rock Climbing

Learn to Lead Rock Climbing is a comprehensive two day course introducing the outdoor climber with come experience to all that is required to lead climb on rock in safety with confidence.

The course covers

  • Using a guidebook and route choice / route finding
  • Assessment of gear required to protect the route and rock quality
  • All aspects of safety
  • Climbing communication / belaying and the belayer / lead climbing roles
  • Placing nuts/cams/hex and assessing the quality of placement
  • Building belays using natural anchors and protection (gear)
  • Psychological tactics, approach and how to inspire confidence
  • Personal Abseiling / avoiding tangles and epics!
  • Leave no Trace

All of the above will be covered while we climb as much as possible. The goal is that on completion of the course you  are a confident independent lead climber.

Multipitch Rock Climbing

Multipitch Rock Climbing is a comprehensive two day course introducing the outdoor rock climber to the intricacies, challenges and joy of multipitch climbing in beautiful location in Ireland.

The course covers

  • Route choice, selecting the appropriate grade, approach to the route
  • Abseiling into a route or from the top of a route
  • Building anchors / belays using natural protection and gear
  • Stance and rope management at a belay
  • Selection of the appropriate protection (gear) and placement review
  • Communication on multipitch routes
  • Psychological approach and tactics
  • Escaping a route and retreat

The course is designed to introduce you to all of the above while we climb routes. The goal on completion of the course is that you leave a confident, safe and independent multipitch climber.

Self Rescue for Climbers One Day

Self Rescue for Rock Climbers One Day is a one day course designed to introduce the rock climber to essential skills for self rescue scenarios. Do you know what to do in an emergency situation while lead climbing or belaying?

The course covers:

  • Tying-off a belay device or Italian Hitch
  • Assessing a situation and making the appropriate decision
  • Escaping the belay (in-reach/out-of-reach)
  • Ascending/descending a rope using a prussic.

The goal of this course is that upon completion you have a reasonable skill set to allow you to assess a situation, make the correct decisions and assist where possible.

Self Rescue for Climbers Two Days

Self Rescue for Rock Climbers Two Day is a two day course designed to introduce the rock climber to essential skills for self rescue scenarios in a real environment. Do you know what to do in an emergency situation if your belayer or lead climber need assistance? Can you escape the system and help hoist or lower them to safety?

The course covers:

  • Tying-off a belay device or Italian Hitch
  • Assessing a situation and making the appropriate decision
  • Escaping the belay (in-reach/out-of-reach)
  • Ascending/descending a rope using a prussic.
  • Passing a knot ascending / descending
  • Assisted Hoist / Unassisted Hoist

The goal of this two day course is that upon completion you have a solid skill set that enables you to assess a situation, make the correct decisions and assist where possible.
